Resumen

Este texto versa sobre las matrices xilográficas que sirvieron para ilustrar el libro de geografía del cosmógrafo de Carlos V, Jerónimo Girava, titulado Dos libros de Cosmographia, estampado en Milán por Juan Antonio Castellón y Cristóbal Caron el día 18 de abril de 1556. Concretamente se analizan la imagen de la portada, un cosmógrafo tomando medidas frente a un globo terráqueo; la estampa de la contraportada, un Minotauro en el centro de un laberinto con la leyenda IN SILENTIO ET SPE y el mapa-mundi de Gaspar Vopellio.

Abstract

This text concerns the woodcut prints which served to illustrate the atlas by the cosmographer to Charles V, Jerónimo Girava, entitled Dos libros de Cosmographia (Two Books of Cosmography), printed in Milan by Juan Antonio Castellón and Cristóbal Caron on 18 April 1556. It specifically analyses the image on the front cover, a cosmographer taking measurements facing a world globe; the print on the back cover, a Minotaur in the centre of a labyrinth with the legend IN SILENTIO ET SPE; and the world map by Gaspar Vopellio.
